Give him a complex scientific problem any day and he’s a happy man. He understands computers; he knows their codes; they can communicate. But women? They don’t come with a code book, so how’s a guy to understand if they are saying what they mean, or if there is something else under the surface?

Sam Stark, known as Stark to everyone, is a straightforward guy with few desires in life, and who always says and does what he means. He loves his computer security company and the work that comes with it, but he thoroughly dislikes the socializing required for a growing business like his. His solution is simple; find a wife that knows how to hobnob, who can set up parties at a drop of a hat, who knows who’s who and what to serve them. But if it’s so easy, why is he left at the altar….twice? And with nothing to show for it but the wedding expenses and leftover catered food for dinner?

Then it hits him – never mind the wife, hire the caterer to oversee the food, the guests and the clean-up! Desdemona Wainwright, caterer extraordinaire, may be a bit too lively, but she can put guests at ease while feeding them the best her kitchen has to offer. Never mind that she comes attached to a quirky Theater family, she understands him, nerdy glasses, pocket protector and droopy corduroy jacket included. The physical attraction between them is a bonus, and its outcome fits in quite well into Stark’s organized, insulated lifestyle.

But things don’t always go the way one envisions, much to Stark’s initial dismay. His family, long absent from his life, suddenly intrudes in the persons of his two young half-brothers. Then there is Desdemona’s stepbrother, Tony, too suave and slippery for Stark’s peace of mind. But total chaos erupts the day someone takes potshots at Desdemona, shaking Stark out of his ordered existence, and leading him deep into an investigation of computer espionage.

TRUST ME is a well-executed novel that hooks the reader from the very first page. It is heart-warming, humorous, and suspenseful all at once. The hero is extremely likeable, despite Desdemona’s family’s insistence that he is merely an android posing as a human being. In fact, he is very likeable *because* of this; the reader waits with gleeful anticipation for his transformation into an emotional, caring being. Desdemona is independent, successful, smart, animated, and level-headed, a perfect partner for Stark. I highly recommend TRUST ME as a wonderful contemporary romance read!

When Desdemona Wainwright and Sam Stark first meet, it's anything but love at first sight. Sam has just been jilted at the alter for the second time and Desdemona is trying to acquire his signature on a cheque for the wedding reception that didn't take place!

Desdemona is part of a large family and Sam is a loner. He believes in business deals and she believes in family and love.

When Sam's two half brothers show up at his door, utter chaos occurs. Desdemona decides that she is going to be the one to teach Sam about family, love and forgiveness. Little do either of them realize that they will both be teachers and students in this story of love ever after.

Sam Stark has been left at the altar before; it’s really no big deal. Desdemona Wainwright doesn’t see it that way at all. It is a big deal – a really big deal if Stark doesn’t pay her catering invoice. So, Desdemona stalwartly follows Sam to his study after the debacle. Desdemona gets her check but feels compelled to invite Sam out to the theater with her family for the evening. Oddly enough Stark agrees and things are altered permanently.

Stark, computer genius and bona fide nerd, doesn’t even pretend to understand Desdemona or her bizarre family. Theater is not Stark’s thing, but somehow he winds up backing an experimental play written by Desdemona’s brother whom he doesn’t even like. Hmmm. . . . how does this come to pass? Stark and Desdemona develop a relationship, which shakes both of them. Love is a powerful and unpredictable entity.

Stark’s existence is further complicated by the arrival of his two half brothers. Stark had never met Jason and Kyle. But, the three shared one thing – an unreliable father who was never coming back. Jason and Kyle had another problem: their mother was completely over the edge and unable to cope with them or their needs. So, Stark takes the boys in for summer, teaches them what he can about self-respect, and is at times brutally honest with his younger brothers. The boys are drawn into theater by Desdemona’s family and their work with the homeless kids of Seattle.

In addition to the latest changes in Stark’s personal life, he believes Desdemona’s brother Tony is behind a nasty piece of corporate espionage threatening Stark’s company, and Tony believes that Stark is just looking for a convenient scapegoat. Desdemona just doesn’t know what to think because she cannot accept that either one of these important men in her life could do something so ethically wrong.

When Desdemona is shot at and locked in the freezer with the corpse of one of her employees, Stark rescues her and proceeds to investigate the disaster that looms on the horizon. Stark and Tony come to an uncomfortable truce but set up a trap to induce the villain to identify himself. However, the villain’s motivation is very personal, and, again, Desdemona is drawn into the plot – this time as a hostage. Tony and Stark clean up the mess and work with the authorities to finish the job.

Trust Me is an excellent example of trust, loyalty, and commitment between hero and heroine. Desdemona and Stark have many internal and external obstacles to overcome in their relationship, yet they both give deeply of themselves. They stick to their values and don’t let conflicting information sway their views.

Family loyalty is a huge component of this novel. Both Stark and Desdemona have complex family relations, but the couple meld family commitments into their daily world to display rare loyalty.

Desdemona Wainwright is very successful with Right Touch, her Catering-Service. But now she has to face an unusual situation: Sam Stark was abandoned by his bride on his wedding day and Desdemona has to convince him to pay her check for arranging a wedding that didn't find place. Sam is an intelligent businessman, very successful with his security company, but he seems to have nearly no emotions. (What made his his bride leave him, was his desire for a pre-nuptual contract). But Desdemona feels a strange attraction to this hard man. To prevent him from spending the rest of this special day alone, she invites him to come with her to meet her family at a modern art drama.

Athough unconvinced this is a good idea, Sam agrees, because he realizes he is fascinated with Desdemona. She is completely different from him: she acts very emotional and she loves her family. Though Sam has problems to understand the way of life of Desdemona's family, he knows for sure, that he has to keep contact to her. He offers her a job as his hostess. Everything goes fine and soon they become lovers. But then something strange happens: During a party at Sam's home arranged by Right Touch, someone tries to steal the hard disk from Sam's computer with important information about his newly developed algorithm to code data. Can Sam trust Desdemona? This book is - even in German - a real keeper: you can't stop reading til the end. Both, characters and story, are well developed and the humorous writing of JAK is as thrilling as usual. Just real fun to read so I can recommend it without reservation! Let's hope, that we will get more JAK-Books translated in German! (This book is also available in German: Traum des Augenblicks, Heyne-Taschenbuch. Review of Audio Version of Trust Me
By Jayne Ann Krentz
Simon & Schuster Inc.
Running Time: 3 Hours
Read By Marcia Strassman

Trust Me is one of my favorite JAK stories. It is the story of Sam Stark and Desdemona Wainwright. As the story opens Sam has just been stood up at the altar for the second time. Desdemona is his caterer and while she is trying to collect her bill for the failed wedding, she invites him to join her family for dinner and a modern theater play. Sam figures that beats spending his supposed Wedding Night with an anatomically correct doll.

Sam is a computer genius, who both by inclination and background does not have much of a social life or social skills. He is really very sweet. When he asks Desdemona if he got it right that she was interested in him, you just want to put your arms around him and give him a hug. The plot revolves around an attempt to steal Sam's new computer program Arcane. The plot is clever and the computerese is well-explained. JAK brings a computer nerd to life, nerdpack and all. When his program works and he cracks a code--his exclamation of Gotcha! shows his joy of discovery. Desdemona's family may think Sam is an android, but she knows from the first that he is a complex man and she wants him as she has never wanted another.

Marcia Strassman is an excellent reader. Her male voices are excellent, as you lose yourself in the story you forget it is one woman doing all of these voices. The witty banter of the dialogue is adult and very enjoyable. The murder mystery does not overshadow the romance in the story and the abridgment is actually very slight. The sex scenes, always difficult on audio, are tastefully done and yet steamy enough for one driving down the road!
